Articles of Faith

Article I – Affirmation of Faith

  1. We believe that the Scriptures consist of 66 books of the Old and New Testaments of the Holy Bible; all the words of the Bible are verbally inspired by the Holy Spirit; the entire Bible was given without error in the original manuscripts; the Bible is the complete special revelation to humanity; the Scriptures are the supreme authority for Christian faith and life (2 Tim. 3:15-17; 2 Pet. 1:20-21).
  2. We believe in one living and true God (Dt. 6:4; 1Tim. 1:17; Heb. 11:6), creator of all things (Gen.1:1-31; Heb. 11:3), infinitely perfect (Dt. 32:4; 2 Sam. 22:31; Mt. 5:48), eternally existing in three persons: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Mat. 28:19; 1 Cor. 12:4-6; 2 Cor. 13:14; 1 Pet. 1:1-2; Acts 16:6-7).
  3. We believe in God the Father who is an infinite and personal spirit (Jn. 4:24), holy (Rev. 4:8; 6:10), sovereign (Dan. 4:25, 32; 5:21; Rev. 6:10), righteous (Ps. 7:9; 11:7), loving (Jn. 3:16), gracious (Ex. 34:6; Ps. 116:5), merciful (Dt. 4:31; Lk. 6:36), wise (Rom. 16:27), all-powerful (Jer. 32:17), all-knowing (Heb. 4:13) and everywhere present (Ps. 139:7-10).
  4. We believe in Jesus Christ, the eternal and unique Son of God (Jn. 1:14; 3:18; 1 John 4:9), who is true God and true man (Jn. 1:14; 20:28; Rom. 1:3). Jesus was conceived of the  Holy Spirit and supernaturally born of the virgin Mary (Mat. 1:20-25; Lk. 1:26-35). He lived a sinless life (Heb. 4:15) during which he taught (Mat. 4:23; 11:1) and performed miracles (Acts 2:22). As a substitutionary sacrifice (Rom. 4:25; Gal. 14:1; 1 John 2:2; 4:10), he died on the cross for our sins according to the Scriptures (1 Cor. 15:3). He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, to the right hand of the Majesty on high, where he is now our high priest and advocate, whence he will return to earth (Mat. 28:6; Lk. 24:6, 34; Eph. 1:20; Heb. 3:1; 8:1; 9:11; Acts 1:3, 10-11).
  5. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the third person of the divine Trinity, sent to glorify the Father and Jesus Christ, to convict humans of sin and judgement, to regenerate believers, and to indwell, instruct, sanctify and empower them for godly living and service (Jn. 14:26; 16:7-11; Acts 1:8; Tit. 3:5; 1 Cor. 12:7-11).
  6. We believe that man was created in the image of God, holy and without sin, as part of God’s “very good” creation (Gen. 1:27, 31). But man fell into sin and is, therefore, alienated from God and lost in sin (Is. 59:2; Acts 3:19). Humans are prisoners of sin and do not have the ability to save themselves from the wrath of God (Rom. 3:10-12, 22-24; Gal. 3:22).
  7. We believe that salvation is by grace (Eph. 2:8; 2 Tim. 1:9). The shed blood of Jesus Christ and his resurrection provide the only grounds for salvation (Acts 4:12; 1 John 1:7). God save sinners from the consequences of their sin and its penalty of eternal death, and gives eternal life to those who have faith in Jesus Christ (Jn. 4:17, 36; 5:24; 6:40; 10:9; 17:2-3; Rom. 6:22-23, 10:13). The Holy Spirit regenerates those who believe in Christ as Savior and repent of their sins (2Thes. 2:13; Tit. 3:5).
  8. We believe in the universal church, a living and spiritual body of which Christ is the head and all regenerated persons are members (Eph. 5:23-24; Col. 1:18, 24; Heb. 12-23). We believe in the local church that consists of a company of believers in Christ (1 Cor. 16-19; Philemon 2), who have been baptized upon a credible profession faith (Acts 2:38, 41); who are associated together for edification through the Word of God, worship of God, prayer and fellowship (Acts 2:41-47). We believe that God has commissioned the members of the local church with the primary task of proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost world (Mat. 28:19-20).
  9. We believe the Lord Jesus Christ has commissioned two ordinances: baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Mat. 28:19-20; Rom. 6:3-4). We believe that the Lord’s Supper was instituted by Christ for commemoration of his death (Lk. 22:17-20, 1 Cor. 11:23-26). We believe that these two ordinances should be observed and administered until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that these two ordinances are symbolic in their meaning and have no power in themselves to confer grace or eternal life.
  10. We believe that Christians should live for the glory of God (1 Cor. 10:31) and the well-being of others (Gal. 6:10), that their conduct should be blameless before the world (1 Thes. 3:13; 4:7; 2 Pet. 3:14), that they should be faithful stewards of their possessions (1 Tim. 6:17-19), and that they should seek to realize for themselves and others the full stature of maturity in Christ (Eph. 4:13; Heb. 6:1).
  11. We believe that, because all believers are members of a holy and royal “prieshood” (1 Pet. 2:5, 9), every human being has direct relations with God and needs no other priest as a mediator, and that the believer is responsible to God in all matters of faith. We believe that a church is independent (Jn. 18:36) and must be free from interference by any ecclesiastical body or political authority (Jn. 19:11), and that therefore the church and State must be kept separate as having different functions, each fulfilling its duties free from dictations and patronage of the other (Rom. 13:1-5).
  12. We believe in the personal and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ to earth and the establishment of his kingdom (Mat. 24:30; Mk. 13:26; Acts 1:11). We believe in the resurrection of the body and the final judgement (1 Cor. 15:20-22; 1 Thes. 4:16-17; 2 Cor. 5:10). Those who are justified in Christ are raised to eternal life (Rom. 2:7); those who are not justified in Christ are raised to judgement and punishment (Mat. 25:46; Rev. 20:13-15).

Article II – Ordinances

The two ordinances to be observed regularly in Northview Christian Fellowship includes Water Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

Section 1. Water Baptism.

  1. Water Baptism symbolizes the believer’s identification with Christ in his death and resurrection and his resolve to be faithful to Christ.
  2. Water Baptism will be administered by immersion, unless a physical disability of the candidate prevents immersion, then the person can receive a baptism by another mode such as springkling or pouring.
  3. Applicants for NCF membership, who were not baptized by immersion or another mode of baptism prior to his or her own regeneration, will be baptized by immersion.
  4. Applicants for NCF membership, who had been baptized in another evangelical church and baptized as a believer in Christ, may confirm the date and mode of their baptism in lieu of being baptized again.
  5. Following baptismal instruction, an ordained pastor will conduct the Water Baptism ceremonies. In case there is no ordained pastor, an elder of the church may conduct the instruction and baptism. NCF may opt to invite an ordained pastor or a licensed minister to conduct the instruction and Water Baptism.
  6. The baptismal certificate should be issued in duplicate and distributed as follows: one certificate for the baptized person and one certificate for the church file.

Section 2. The Lord’s Supper

  1. The Lord’s Supper is a proclamation of the death, resurrection and second coming of Christ. It is a memorial act.
  2. The Lord’s Supper will be administered at least once a month.
  3. The Lord’s Supper will be administered by the pastor of NCF, an ordained pastor, a licensed minister, or an elder of NCF.
  4. Participation in the Lord’s Supper is open to all believers present, and not limited to members of NCF.
